Clear Sky bring Cheers and Relief from biting cold
Thursday, January 7, 2010 6:46Bright sunshine after a week long cloudy and foggy weather brought smiles on the faces of people on Wednesday. The cold day conditions abated as skies were clear and maximum temperatures rose everywhere. The weatherman said that there will be slight drop in the night temperatures due to clear skies. There are also possibilities of mist and fog in the morning. However, no significant change is likely in the weather conditions at least till Friday.
The thick dense fog, giving appearance of clouds, had enveloped the state for last one week following light rains on December 29. The fog was not allowing the sunshine to reach the earth surface resulting in drastic drop in the day temperatures. At many places, the day temperature dropped to 12-14 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. There was hardly any difference between the night and the day temperatures. The dry icy winds had made things worse for the people. However, the weather turnaround came as a big relief, particularly for the poor.
State Met director JP Gupta said that the thick layer of fog was suspended in the atmosphere at around 500 metres from the ground. But on Wednesday, the change in wind pattern helped in dissolving the fog. It started from central up and gradually, the fog got diluted in the west and east UP as well. On an average, day temperatures rose by 4-5 degrees Celsius on Wednesday at most places in comparison to Tuesday. Lucknow had recorded 14.3 degrees Celsius maximum temperature on Tuesday. However, it rose to 19.2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
Normal life was thrown out of gear because of chilly winds and foggy weather. Rail, road and air traffic was badly affected and the state government was forced to order closure of schools up to class eighth till January 9 in all over the state in view of the severe cold wave conditions.
