Citizens of the state of Uttar Pradesh often blame government for poor power conditions in the state and allege that the government has nexus with inverter manufacturing companies. It might be true but one should also look at the other side of the coin.
There are several other reasons like power loss during transmission, power theft and one of the main reasons are defaulters who are not paying their bills and thus making the situation of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited(UPPCL) miserable.
According to the data compiled by UPPCL, the top defaulters are:
1. Fertilizer Unit, IEL (Duncan) Panki, Kanpur – Rs. 98 Crores.
2. Modi Industries, Modinagar, Ghaziabad – Rs. 82 Crores.
3. Ram Shree Steel, Orai, Jalaun – Rs. 18 Crores.
4. Real Cement, Jalaun – Rs. 16 Crores
There are around 105 defaulters who have dues more than Rs. 1 Crore.
Now these biggies go untouched either by taking stays from courts or by their political influence. Who pay the price? The Common Man who regularly pays their dues.
